YNYSTAWE FRIENDS GROUP

The above group was set up a few years ago. Its aim is to enhance the facilities and the environment of the locality surrounding the village of Ynystawe.

Recent examples of the work of the group include regular litter picks, repainting of the entire childrens’ playground equipment in the park, and the reinstatement of the tennis court in the park. We have also ensured that a Post Box was resited within the village.

Last summer saw the ‘Pobl Music Festival’ taking place for the first time in the park and this was a huge success and provided an enjoyable day for all. Plans are already in place to hold the event again this year. An Easter Egg Hunt is also planned and hopefully other events will also be organised. Dates of all activities will be published in advance.

Current projects which the group are involved in include reintroducing facilities for playing bowls in the park and providing suitable seating areas near the playground. We also aim to develop Information Boards which will be sited on the new pathway between Ynystawe and Clydach, which will provide information on the past industrial history of the area.

The above projects will require funding and we are actively seeking grants to help achieve these projects. We have been assisted in our endeavours by the Local Authority and our Assembly Representative Mike Hedges and we are grateful for their support.

We will keep readers informed on our progress at all times.
