PONTARDAWE FACING A YEAR OF BAD LUCK WITH XMAS TREE STILL UP

The entire Town of Pontardawe are facing a disastrous 2020 as the Christmas tree and decorations on Herbert Street remains. Many residents intend to sue the council for any misfortune throughout the year as the blame game begins.

One resident is already considering legal action after failing to win Saturdays lottery. “He’s not saying that it is definitely because of the tree. However, it certainly doesn’t help his chances” stated the solicitor of the resident (who wishes to remain anonymous).

Individual cases are hard to prove however collective misfortune could become a more problematic legal case for the council. There are already said to be concerns within the Council legal team about the weather over Pontardawe festival.

“It is no coincidence.” One local Landlord told us. “Every year, the Christmas tree remains beyond January 5th and every year it rains when the festival is on”.

Pontardawe RFC, Pontardawe Cricket Club and Pontardawe AFC were all unlucky at some point last year and the finger is beginning to point at the Christmas tree. One fan told us “every time we hit the post, I cursed that tree!”.

Although there is no actual law stating when a Christmas tree must be taken down. There are set guidelines:-

Dec. 31: Take your tree down on New Year’s Eve before the bells toll at midnight. Otherwise, it’s said you’ll be dragging all your baggage and bad luck from last year into the new year…

Jan. 5: Take your tree down on this day, traditionally considered the Twelfth Day of Christmas — i.e., the last of 12 days of Christmas merriment. Think of it as getting closure on the holiday season.

Jan. 6: Take it down on Jan. 6 in observance of the Epiphany, a Christian holiday marking the revelation of God in human form in the person of Jesus. Again, some would say leaving your tree up beyond the 5th or 6th brings bad luck.

In similar news, the house opposite the Ynysmeudwy Arms won this years ‘first lights up’ competition. Incredibly managing to get their Christmas lights up before Home Bargains were offering a Halloween aisle.
