Pontardawe Town Council Spending

The Town Council is proud to support communities by providing Grants to various organisations.

For 2018/19 the Town Council will be awarding the following Grants:

Gwaun Cae Gurwen Brass Band – £450.00, Royal Air Force Cadets – £700.00, Pontardawe Senior Citizens Welfare Association – £100.00, Heart of the Valley Show – £1000.00, Neath Age Connects – £300.00, Pontardawe Community Sports and Recreation Association – £500.00, St Peters Church Flower Festival – £100.00, Pontardawe RFC  in order to support the Pontardawe Proms, Pontardawe Fireworks and Pontardawe Carnival- £1500.00, Pontardawe Cricket Club – £500.00, Tenovus Cancer Care – £50.00,Teen Cancer Trust – £50.00, Bobath – £50.00, Marie Curie Nurses – £50.00,Macmillan Cancer Support – £50.00, Urdd – £100.00, Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Urdd – £100.00,National Eisteddfod – £100.00, Tawe Guild of weavers and dyers – £100.00, Shopmobility Neath Port Talbot – £100.00, Glantawe Lions – Tree of Light – £100.00, Pontardawe Chamber of Trade and Commerce – £3000 to support the Summerfest and Winterfest.

£2000 has been retained from the Grant Budget for grant requests later in the year.

The Council is pleased to announce that they have placed another defibrillator in the Pontardawe area. The unit has been placed in the office of Pontardawe Taxi’s on High Street in Pontardawe. Many Thanks to Pontardawe Taxi’s for being willing to support this initiative.

The Mayors Charity for 2017/18 is ‘Dementia Friendly Communities’ and we were very pleased to have been provided with the proceeds of the Glantawe Lions ‘Tree of Light’ for the Pontardawe area which amounted to £415.00 for this Charity.

Each “Tree” enables people to remember a person or cause by sponsoring one of the lights in that person’s memory for a minimum donation of £5. Every sponsor is sent a card commemorating their loved one and a list of sponsors and the person remembered is put up at each “Tree”.

All the “Trees” are switched on at the beginning of December when there will is a short dedication services, to which the sponsors are invited.

Also,Pontardawe Dementia Friends will be having its official launch on Thursday the 24th May at 6.30pm to approximately 8.00pm at Pontardawe Arts Centre.
